Phillip Byrnes

Location: Forster, Great Lakes Fisheries, Manning River, Myall Lake, New South Wales, Smiths Lake, Tuncurry, Wallis Lake

Phillip is a 4th-generation professional fisherman from the Wallis Lakes region, endorsed to fish in the NSW Estuary General Fishery. He started as a deckhand in 1981 when he was young (only 8 years old!) and worked mainly on prawn boats with his father until taking on his own fishing operation.

Why Phillip loves fishing: I love the isolation, wilderness, the hunting factor, independence, lifestyle, and self-employment that come along with fishing professionally.

What Phillip loves about the marine environment: I love seeing the pristine waters.

Phillip is proud to be recognised as an OceanWatch Master Fisherman, responsibly and sustainably harvesting local seafood for seafood consumers. He supplies his catch to Great Lakes Fisheries
