Ian McRae

Ian is a first generation fisher originally from Scotland. He came to Australia in 1995 and decided to stay within 2 days of being here! A short time later, he decided he wanted to become a professional fisher and began his fishing business in 2014.

What Ian loves about fishing: I love the diversity of what I do – the fact that we really don’t know what we’re going to catch on any given day, even though we’re trying to target certain species. Every day is unpredictable!

What Ian loves about the marine environment: The things I see on the water – people won’t ever see what I see! Whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles, snakes, you name it! Not to mention the fish and crabs I catch.

Where can you find Ian’s catch? At the Ballina Fishermens Co-Op!
