Cultivating Methods
Subtidal Long-line Systems
The subtidal long-line system consists of a single line, on which baskets containing pearl oysters can be suspended, remaining underwater for all tides. The nature of this system allows pearl oysters to feed constantly while rising and falling with the tide, always remaining underwater. Different leases within the estuary allow for seasonal movement to ensure water temperature, flow of nutrient and other considerations are always taken into account, maximising growth of the pearl oysters and protection from predation and fluctuations to salinity and temperature across the year.
